From April 20 to 24, 2026, the E-AI community meets in Zagreb for its Spring Workshop. This workshop aims to be a cornerstone event for experts, researchers, developers, and operational users across Europe. Our central goal is to build a stronger community by finding synergies, sharing knowledge, and paving the way for the next generation of AI-driven environmental services within the E-AI Programme.
We will explore the future of AI in our field through a series of keynote speeches, technical introductions, and interactive sessions. We encourage discussions and contributions that focus on collaborative efforts and shared resources. The workshop will be structured around the following key themes:
- Finding Synergies: Identifying common challenges and opportunities for collaboration across national meteorological and hydrological services (NMHSs) and partner institutions.
- Joint Development of Packages: Pooling resources and expertise to create robust, open-source software and models that benefit the entire community.
- Joint Use of Applications: Establishing best practices and platforms for sharing and co-utilizing operational AI applications.
- Joint Provision of Service: Developing frameworks for shared AI-based services and operational workflows.
- Joint Exploitation of Data: Creating strategies for leveraging collective datasets, including satellite, radar, and model data, to train more powerful AI models.
- Identification of Opportunities: Brainstorming and identifying high-impact areas for future joint projects and research initiatives.
- Exchange of Experience: Sharing successes, challenges, and lessons learned from implementing AI/ML projects.
- Presentation of New Use Cases and Applications: Showcasing cutting-edge applications to be shared across the community, from nowcasting to climate projection.
- Onboarding New Services and Frameworks: Discussing strategies for the smooth integration and adoption of new AI tools and platforms within operational environments.
Call for Contributions
We invite you to be an active part of this exciting event by sharing your work, insights, and vision with the community. We welcome contributions in the form of oral presentations and poster presentations.
Submissions are encouraged on any of the workshop themes listed above. We are particularly interested in contributions that highlight:
- Collaborative projects between multiple institutions.
- Novel AI/ML applications with a clear path to operational use.
- Frameworks and strategies that promote open science and shared development.
- Innovative solutions to common challenges in data handling, model development, and validation.
How to Submit: Please submit your abstract (max. 300 words) through our Registration form. Submission Deadline: Sunday, 1 March, 2026.
Venue and Draft Agenda
The E-AI Workshop will be kindly hosted by the DHMZ at the Hotel Zonar.
Venue: Hotel Zonar, Trg Krešimira Ćosića 9, Zagreb, Croatia
The workshop will be primarily in-person. However, access to a live stream of the presentations will be provided to online participants. Online participants will be able to pose questions using the stream chat, while remote presenters will be able to share their work live. Please note that online participants may not be able to fully engage in discussions and interactive sessions. We believe that in-person meetings are important for fostering a sense of community and facilitating effective collaboration. Occasional face-to-face interactions are, in our opinion, essential for the success of an international collaboration. However, we also acknowledge the financial, temporal and environmental costs associated with travel. Therefore, frequent E-AI working group meetings take place online.
Monday, April 20, is allocated for community-led AI/ML tutorials. The following days, Tuesday to Friday, 21 – 24 April, will be dedicated to application centered sessions in plenary.
A very early draft agenda is available (as of 6 January 2026). Details are subject to abstract submissions, discussion with the working groups, and other stakeholders.
Registration
Please register and submit your abstract through the form below. As participating in the workshop is free of charge, the lunches will be self paid.
